The Centipede Walk

A centipede is a worm-like animal with 15 to 175 pairs of legs. When it moves, a wave of movement can be seen passing along the rows of legs. Only one out of eight legs touches the ground at any given time. The legs of one side move in one direction, while the legs of the other side move in the opposite direction. This makes a walking centipede resemble an oarsman rowing with a single oar, first on one side and then on the other.
The fastest centipede is the Scutigera forceps or the house centipede. It has long legs that help it to move at a speed of 20in (30 cm) per second.
